The library’s stock

The entire collection of the library contains about 500.000 volumes, which is completed with cca. 1000 Hungarian and foreign journals.

Half of the collection consists of monographs, about one third of periodicals, and the rest is the so called “grey literature”.

The collection interest of the library spans the entire spectrum of Hungarian and selected items of international publications, books, periodicals and other important documents in the fields of agriculture, food industry, forestry, wood processing and related disciplines.

Beside printed documents we have also electronic databases:

                      mgk (books),

                      fir (periodicals),

                      mab (Hungarian Agricultural Bibliography),

                      tmf (database of EU technical literature),

          tmh (technical literature about Hungary, published in the EU, is built since 1999)

The databases tmf and tmh contain articles from journals, books, parts of books and conference materials – mostly related to the EU – which material was collected earlier as SDI.

There are many special CD-ROMs in our library stock.

Since 1994 we use the integrated online library system Aleph, the catalogue of which is continuously completed with new documents and retrospectively with earlier documents.

At the same time each borrower may borrow

            10 books, via interlibrary lending.

The loan period is 30 days.

To borrow a book one must have a valid reader’s card. Books may be returned also by post, but the costs of postage (as registered parcel) has to meet the borrower.

The call slips for the requested books has to be filled out properly. Borrowing and returning of books will be registered (upon barcodes, on the reader’s card and in the book) by the electronic library system of our library with data with probative force for both the library and the reader. Renewing is possible within 10 days after expiry of the loan period, personally, by e-mail or phone. If the reader can enter our homepage he/she can renew for himself in the Aleph system but only within the expiry date of the loan period and only if the book has not been requested by others. In case of delayed return of books the borrower has to pay overdue charges. Further lending is not possible until the overdue charges have not been paid.

The borrower has to give notice of the loss of the book immediately. How to replace a lost (destroyed or damaged) book:

a)      if the book may be bought the borrower has to compensate the loss of the library with a faultless copy within one month;

b)      if the book is out of print the library has to make a copy of it at the borrower’s cost, in order to preserve the value of it’s collection;

c)      in particular cases the library settles the amount of damages after consultation with the borrower.

If the borrower does not return the book or does not pay the settled amount in spite of warnings, the library institutes legal proceedings against him/her.

The readers subjected  to legal proceedings instituted by the library will be excluded from registered members.
